The Occitan language, or Langue d'oc (lenga d'òc), is a European Roman language characterised by the diversity of dialects (there are six main dialects). In contrast to other regional languages in France, Occitan is spoken over a wide geographical region (see light blue part on the map). In the past, the language was also spoken in the Aquitaine, where there are still people who use the language. Below is a brief list of words (English - French - Occitan), just to give an impression.
